Supporting LGBTQ Youth in Early Psychosis Intervention

In this course, presented by Megan Sage, DMV, participants will:

1) Learn definitions of commonly used terms related to working with LGBTQ youth.
2) Learn current statistics, protective factors, and risk factors for LGBTQ youth and LGBTQ youth experiencing psychosis.
3) Learn mental health diagnostic categories specific to LGBTQ youth.
4) Name and practice 2 affirming, culturally humble care approaches or practices with youth who identify as LGBTQ and their family members and supports.
5) Identify strengths and challenges in current team and programmatic practices and identify next steps in implementing or improving these practices within your team/agency.

Kentucky currently has nine Coordinated Specialty Care (CSC) teams across the state, serving young people with or at risk of First Episode Psychosis (FEP). These teams are called iHOPE (Helping Others Pursue Excellence).

This training is made possible by Bipartisan Safer Communities Act (BSCA) funds through Kentucky Department for Behavioral Health, Developmental and Intellectual Disabilities. Attendance is free.
