October 13-October 14, 2026 Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST)

October 13 @ 8:00 am - October 14 @ 5:00 pm
Free – $25

A two-day, interactive, in-person workshop

Every day, someone in your community faces thoughts of suicide. And every day, caring people like you have the power to help keep them safe.

LivingWorks ASIST (Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training) gives you the confidence, knowledge and practical tools to intervene when it matters most.

You don’t need to be a counselor or mental health professional – just someone who’s willing to care, to listen and to take action.

When you become a Suicide First-Aid Helper, you become a vital part of the Network of Safety – where people everywhere are using their skills to help save lives and bring hope.

Over two engaging days led by certified LivingWorks Trainers, you’ll learn through real conversations, group practice and shared reflection in a safe, supportive environment. You’ll:

  • Build confidence to ask directly about suicide
  • Listen with empathy and without judgment
  • Explore personal attitudes and beliefs that affect your ability to help
  • Create a collaborative Safety Plan to help someone stay safe for now
  • Connect them to further care and ongoing support

IMPORTANT NOTE

This training is not intended to serve as direct support for survivors of suicide loss. If you have lost someone to suicide within the past year, the content of this training may be emotionally challenging. ASIST is an interactive workshop that asks you to examine your own thoughts and believes about suicide, participate in potential real-life scenario role plays, and more. Participants are encouraged to contact Hannah Brosnan at hannahb@mhaky.org before attending if they have questions or need additional guidance.

This is a two-day, interactive, in-person workshop. Trainees must attend both full days in order to receive credit.

Location: CHER Building, 316 W Second St, 1st Floor Conference Room (Room 102), Morehead, KY 40351

This training is offered to UK St. Claire, CMHC, and CCBHC employees at no cost. Tickets for other Kentucky residents and employees are available at $25 each. CEs are not offered by MHAKY, but course agenda and other materials needed to apply for CE credit will be provided to attendees upon request.

Attendees will be responsible for their own meals during the 1-hour lunch break. A refrigerator is available for lunchboxes as needed; there are also various options available for carry-out.

NOTE: If this training is sold out and you are interested in attending, please contact joni@mhaky.org to be added to the waitlist.
