Parents and families of children on the autism spectrum want to know how to go about choosing the right school and accessing the resources that their child needs to learn, succeed, and thrive at school. Dr. Katherine Cooper is the Jefferson County Public Schools Exceptional Child Education Community Relations Supervisor and she will discuss testing needed to access crucial resources, the differences between IEPs and 504 plans, and the support services that can help a child to thrive. Whether families are starting the process of looking for educational resources after the diagnosis, or looking for ways to strengthen understanding and engagement in a child’s educational plan, this session will provide guidance for families to make informed choices to smooth the road for their child.
